E-Commerce to reduce bank expense: Atiur

Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman categorically said that the electronic commerce (E-commerce) system will reduce the infrastructure costs of the bank.

“The system has also opened a new door and we all can work together now,” he added.

He came up with the observation while inaugurating the ‘E-Commerce Week’ in city’s Hotel Westin on Saturday morning.

Bangladesh Bank and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) jointly organized the week.

Dr Atiur Rahman said, “Bangladesh Bank has introduced ‘national payment switch’ in some banks and very soon it will be introduced in rest of the banks.”

“Through this service any client can withdraw money from the ATM booth of any other banks which will lessen the infrastructure cost of the bank,” he added.

Mentioning the world perspective, the BB governor also said, “The world is changing day by day and Bangladesh is introducing itself to the world with a new look despite of many problems.”

The inaugural programme was attended, among others, by BB executive director Dasgupta Asim Kumar and BASIS president Fahim Mashrur. Banglanews24.com
