Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated across the country on September 13 as the new moon of the Arabic month of Zilhajj was not sighted in Bangladesh sky on Friday.The National Moon Sighting Committee took the decision at a meeting after reviewing reports on moon sighting received from different parts of the country.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Religious Affairs Ministry Bazlul Haque Haroon presided over the meeting held at the conference room of Islamic Foundation’s Baitul Mukarram office.
Religious Affairs Secretary Abdul Jalil and acting Director General of Islamic Foundation Dr M Afzal Hossain were, among others, present at the meeting.
Eid-ul-Azha is the second of two religious festivals celebrated by Muslims worldwide each year.
It honours the willingness of Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his promised son, Ishmael, as an act of submission to Allah’s command, before God intervenes through his angel Jibra’il and informs him that his sacrifice has already been accepted.
