Ensure legal rights of disabled persons: speakers

Speakers at a workshop here have stressed for mainstreaming the  persons with disabilities through ensuring their legal rights and  proper implementation of the Disabled People’s Rights Protection  Act-2013 for their uplift.Rangdhanu District Protibondhi Adhikar Sangstha (RZPAS) and Prottyasha Protibondhi Nari O Shishu Unnayan Sangstha (PPNOSUS) jointly organised the workshop at Public Library auditorium in the city on Sunday.The ADD International extended technical cooperation while Manusher Janno Foundation providing financial cooperation in arranging the day-long workshop on “Implementation of the Disabled People’s Rights Protection Act-2013.’Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr ATM  Mahbubul Karim attended and addressed the workshop as the chief guest with President of RZPAS Nur Alam in the chair.Additional District Magistrate Sandhya Paul, Rangpur Divisional Chief of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association Advocate Kohinoor Begum, noted cultural personality Monwar Hossain and Area Coordinator of UCEP Bangladesh Shamim Ahsan addressed as the special guests.President of PPNOSUS Ummey Kulsum, General Secretary of RZPAS Rabiul Islam, also addressed among others.A large number of the male and female leaders of different Disabled  People’s Organisations (DPO) from all eight upazilas in the district  participated in the workshop moderated by , Capacity Development  Facilitator of ADD International Marufa Begum.The speakers narrated different aspects and clauses of the Disabled People’s Rights Protection Act-2013 and provided necessary suggestions on advocacy policies and strategies to the participant DPO leaders for proper implementation of the Act. They stressed for taking adequate measures by the concerned authorities to assist the disabled persons so that they could get all of their constitutionally recognised legal supports easily in a hassle free manner everywhere, including at the grassroots levels. They said the disabled persons can equally contribute to the nation building activities and achieve self-reliance if they were provided with proper care and assistance to make them able through education,training and other facilities by ensuring their legal rights.The disabled persons generally remain uncared and deprived of legal and human rights all the time to hinder flourishing of their talents and abilities forcing them to remain dependent on mercy of the others, they said.The chief guest called for proper implementation of the Disabled People’s Rights Protection Act-2013 to ensure legal rights of the physically challenged people for their mainstreaming to turning them into able human resources and self-reliant.BSS, Rangpur
