The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Monday exempted Erfan Salim, son of Awami League leader and MP Haji Mohammad Salim from a drug case. Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman of the CMM Court passed the order on Monday after a short hearing on the probe report. Earlier, the court accepted the probe report exempting Erfan.
Chawkbazar Police Station police submitted the probe reports on arms and drug cases to the CMM Court of Dhaka on January 5.
In the final report, police said they did not find any proof to prove the charges against Erfan in the two cases filed under the Narcotics Control and Arms Acts. The IO also appealed to the court to discharge Erfan from the cases.
Earlier, Judge of Special Tribunal-1 KM Imrul Kayes allowed Erfan relief from the arms case.
Erfan was arrested after a case was filed against him on the charge of ‘attacking’ Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan of Bangladesh Navy in the Dhanmondi area of the city on October 25 last year.
RAB conducted a drive at Haji Salim’s house on Debidas Lane in Old Dhaka the next day.
