EU envoy hosts Lalon music event to spread its messages

Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Bangladesh Rensje Teerink hosted an event featuring Lalon music at her residence on Sunday night in an effort to speared the powerful and peaceful messages of Lalon songs across the world.

Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Dr GowherRizvi, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Dr Rubana Huq, diplomats stationed in Dhaka, civil society members and senior journalists were present.

“All humans are equal,” Ambassador Teerink said adding that the messages of these songs are so important.

She said the music and tradition is so rich that should be really supported by all. “It (Lalon music) deserves to be getting a big platform.”

German Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Fahrenholtz said he likes Lalon music so much. “When I came to Bangladesh I discovered this really old, traditional, beautiful music and I’m deeply moved.”

He desires to travel to Kusthia to attend the Lalon Festival where he can spend two or three days and to get to know all the musicians of this country.

The Bauls who performed at the event said they sing to honor the creator, promoter and pioneer of a genre of folk songs.
