Miscreants have shot dead, Ismail Hossain Panjer, a former leader of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD) in Kushtia.
A local Awami League (AL) leader was also hit by bullet during the attack on Monday morning at Ahmedpur Bazar in Poradaho union under Mirpur Upazila.The dead has been identified as Ismail Hossain Panjer, 56. He was vice president of JaSaD’s Mirpur Upazila chapter.
Injured Shafiqul Islam, 50, general secretary of AL’s Poradaho union unit, was admitted to the Kushtia Sadar Hospital.
There are several cases, including that of murder, against Hossain, said Sohel Reza, additional superintendent of police in Kushtia.
He was released from jail on bail in a murder case on Mar 20.
Miscreants fired at the two at a tea stall in the market around 6am and fled the spot, said Hossain’s son Mitul.
Hossain was declared dead after he was taken to hospital, he said. Police official Reza said Hossain might have been killed by his rivals.
