Dhaka, Nov 28 – The High Court on Thursday granted eight-week anticipatory bail to BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and three others in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station over a clash between police and BNP men in front of the High Court on Tuesday.
The three other BNP leaders are BNP Standing Committee Members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, and party’s law secretary Kayser Kamal. The HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the order.
Advocate Zainul Abedin and Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain stood for the bail petitioners while advocate Sagir Hossain Leon assisted them.
The court also directed the BNP leaders to surrender before the Dhaka Sessions Judges Court after eight weeks, said Sagir Hossain Leon.
He said they filed bail petitions for six BNP leaders but among them, BNP Vice-Chairman Major (Retired) Hafizuddin Ahmed was arrested by police and Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel failed to appear before the court.
So, hearing on their appeals did not take place on Thursday, Leon added.
