Fakhrul hurt during election campaign in Rangpur

Rangpur, Sept 30 (UNB) – BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was hurt as he fell down in a truck in which he was carrying out electioneering in favour of their party candidate in Rangpur-3 by-polls on Monday afternoon.

Party leaders and activists immediately took him to a local private hospital where he received primary treatment.

BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan said Fakhrul joined a wayside rally at Paira Crossing in the city as part of electioneering for BNP candidate Rita Rahman.

Later, he took part in a procession riding a truck towards the Shapla Chattar. “As the truck driver slowed down the vehicle suddenly, Fakhrul fell down and got hurt in his left hand,” Sayrul said.

He said the BNP leader’s sugar level also dropped slightly.

Meanwhile, Fakhrul returned to Dhaka at night by air and underwent health checkup at the United Hospital.

The by-election to the Rangpur-3 seat which fell vacant following the death of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad will be held on October 5.

Rita Rahman, daughter of BNP founder member Moshiur Rahman Jadu Mia, is contesting the by-polls as the candidate of ‘Sheaf of Paddy’.
