“Our music industry is going through a bad time. Please don’t publish this news.”
Acclaimed folk singer Farida Parveen lodged two different cases in Dhaka’s Gulshan and Dhanmondi Thana, alleging the defendants of infringing the copyright law by illegally using her songs.
In the case filed in Gulshan Thana, Farida sued some eight people, including Imrul Karim, country manager, Yonder Music Bangladesh, Mazharul Islam, managing director, Laser Vision, Raju, CEO, Younder Music Bangladesh.
Police has arrested Mehedi, the chief coordinator of Yonder Music Bangladesh, on August 20 in the case filed in Gulshan Thana.
When contacted Farida refused to talk on the matter, saying, “I don’t want to talk about this now. You’ll know everything later.”
Requesting the journalist not to publish the news, Babul Chowdhury, the plaintiff on the case, said to Priyo.com, “Our music industry is going through a bad time. Please don’t publish this news. You must like music. Publishing this kind of news will bring a great loss to our industry as the business condition of the industry is worse than ever.”
“This is an old matter. These are all Lalongeeti. She has sold a single track to multiple parties. We bought the songs from Don Music. We had an agreement with them along with the evidences. We also have the evidences of payment we made to Don Music in this regard. After all these, I don’t understand how she lodged a case,” said G-Series kingpin Nazmul Haque Bhuiyan on the matter.
However, many of the people, engaged with the audio production industry of the country, believe that a number of people from the industry is deliberately misinterpreting and misusing the copyright law and using it to blackmail the others.
