FBCCI, MNCCI likely to organize business summit in March

Dhaka, Feb 11 (UNB):  The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) are likely jointly organize a business summit in March this year.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Republic of Maldives Rear Admiral Nazmul Hassan paid a courtesy call with the president of FBCCI Sheikh Fazle Fahim at FBCCI Icon Tower in the capital’s Motijheel on Thursday.
“A business delegation from Maldives accompanying their President may visit Bangladesh in the 3rd week of March, 2021. FBCCI and MNCCI may jointly organize a business summit during the visit,” Fazle Fahim said.
Nazmul Hassan said as Maldives economy is heavily import oriented for most of its products and has immense opportunity of export where Bangladesh has significant number of migrant workers.
In response, Fazle Fahim said Bangladeshi vegetables, livestock, poultry, pharmaceuticals, processed food, frozen food, etc. can be exported to Maldives.
In the meeting, the FBCCI President said there is a chance of capacity building of Bangladesh’s industrial fishing utilizing Maldives expertise (Tuna production process) as well as joint collaboration in resort and hotel supply chain.
He stressed on establishing Direct Bangladesh-Maldives Shipping Line for market diversification of Bangladesh and said Outward Foreign Direct Investment (OFDI) opportunities may be explored in the hospitality sector in Maldives.
Fahim also said BVCI (Bilateral Value Chain Initiative) may be explored in Blue Economy, energy and infrastructure development including renewable energy (solar, marine, tidal, etc.) are also some of the highly prospective areas for joint venture.
“FBCCI will connect Maldives Association of Financial Institution with its counterpart in Bangladesh for potential collaboration,” he also said.
