Fed Cup Football: Basundhara Kings make brilliant start beating Mohammedan 5-2

Dhaka – Coming from behind, newcomers Basundhara Kings made a majestic debut in the season’s curtain-raiser soccer meet, the Walton Federation Cup Football Tournament, shocking 10-time champions Dhaka Mohammedan SC 5-2 in a Group D match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday.With the day’s well merited victory over traditional Dhaka Mohammedan SC, big budgeted Basundhara Kings dominated the Group D list securing full three points from their first appearance in the heavyweight meet.
Brazilian midfielder Marcos De Costa struck twice, World Cup playing Daniel Collindres of Costa Rica, Jorge Goton of Spain and Motin Miah of Bangladesh scored one each for the Kings while Gambian forward Landing Darboe netted both the goals for the old horse Mohammedan SC.
In the day’s first match, Landing Darboe put Mohammedan SC ahead in the 18th minute utilizing a left wing cross of Kingsley (1-0).
Daniel Collindres leveled the margin for the Kings in the 22nd minute from a penalty (1-1). The Kings awarded the spot kick when their onrushing forward Ibrahim was fouled by Mohammedan skipper Mintu Sheikh in the danger zone.

Taklis Ahmed brought misery for Mohammedan SC as he unnecessary got the marching order after receiving a red card in the 77th minute to restrict the black and white teams to 10-man as a result Mohammedan SC conceded three more goals in the remaining period.
Basundhara Kings took lead for the first time in the 78th minute when their substitute forward Motin Miah found the Mohammedan net by a spectacular right footer (3-2).
Brazilian Macos De Costa netted two more goals in the stoppage time of the match (93rd and 94th minutes) enabling Basundhara Kings for a comfortable victory (5-2).
In the day’s other 2nd match, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club made a good start beating Nofel Sporting Club by 2-1 goals at the same venue Monday evening.
Soloman King and Shakwat Hossain Rony scored for Sheikh Jamal DC one in each half while Michael Yonta netted the lone goal for Nofel SC in the first half.
Arambagh KS and Rahmatganj MFS will meet in each other in Tuesday’s lone match.UNB
