Female student of Rajshahi University commits ‘suicide’

Rajshahi, Jan 31 – A third-year female student of Rajshahi on early Sunday allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with the ceiling fan of her room in a hostel of Mirzapur area of Rajshahi city. The deceased was identified as Mobassira Tahsin Ira, student of the Law department of the university. She is from Kendua Upazilla of Netrokona district.
Law department chairman Professor Hasibul Alam Prodhan said Ira was staying in the rented hostel to attend her postponed third-year final examinations.
Some female friends of her from the same hostel went to Mobassira’s room to discuss the upcoming examinations with her and found her door locked from inside. When they did not get any response from the room, they called the hostel authority who broke the door and found Mobassira hanging with the ceiling fan, professor Hasibul Alam Prodhan added.
Motihar Police Station SI Imran Hasan said we suspected after a primary investigation that Mobassira committed suicide. We have sent the body to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. After the post mortem report, we will be sure about how she died.
In the last few years, several students of Rajshahi University committed suicide. Anthropology department 2nd-year student Debjyoti Bosak Partho on 19 December 2020 committed suicide by hanging himself with the ceiling fan in his house in Patuakhali district. – RU Correspondent
