Dhaka- The country’s first ever banking fair began at the Bangla Academy premises in the capital city on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Bank is organising the five-day “Bangladesh Banking Fair 2015” with the theme, “To Build a Banking Nation”, a press release said.
The central bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest while Secretary of the Bank and Financial Institutions Division under Finance Ministry Dr M Aslam Alam and National Board of Revenue Chairman M Najibur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.Atiur Rahman called upon the bankers for developing a ‘human banking’ instead of traditional one to make contributions to the poor for achieving inclusive economic growth.
“We want to make banking business for all providing priority to the poor,” he said.
The governor also said the fair would help build a banking nation by raising public awareness about banking products and services and expanding financial literacy programs.
Among others, Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governors SK Sur Chowdhury and Minul Islam also attended.
All 56 scheduled banks, six non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) and seven financial services related organisations are taking part in the fair to display their products and services.
The objectives of the fair include raising public awareness about banking products and services, expanding the financial literacy programme of BB at national level, promoting banking sector, its products and services, presenting the banks as service providers to the customers, encouraging the customers optimizing the usage of technology in the banking sector, ensuring broadened financial inclusion, bringing the young and the youths under banking services and extending the banking services and products to the people’s door steps.
On the sidelines of the fair, seminar, workshop, roundtable meeting, debate competition and cultural programmes will be held every day. – Agencies
