Journalist Souro has voiced a tributary song in memory of Rock Pioneer of the country Azam Khan. The song the first one on Azam Khan was released on the occasion of the 69th birth anniversary of Azam Khan on February 28. Titled ‘Azam Khan’ Bangladhol released the song and its music video on YouTube. Souro has not only sung the song but has also composed it while writer-cum-designer Dhrubo Esh has penned the lyric. Rezaul Karim Limon has played the part for sound mixing, arranging and mastering. Jahriul Hasan has directed the music video.
Souro said that Azam Khan who was also a Freedom Fighter in Liberation War of 1971, showed the path to freedom both for Bangladesh and Bangla Music. In the shaky 70s he upheld Bangla traditions before the global arena while enriching Bangla music with rock, pop, surf rock, folk rock and other modern genres. Those who at present are trying to sing to the tune of contemporary music are indebted towards Azam Khan, Souro thinks. The song is a tribute to all those who have been inspired by his music, Souro added.
Born in 1950 in Azimpur Azam Khan joined the Liberation War under sector-2 as a section in-charge. Being a student freshly out of higher secondary level he also led some guerrilla operations in and around the capital city Dhaka. He introduced rock music to the country after independence with his band Uchcharan. His songs-‘Eto Sundor Duniya Kichhui Robe Naa’, ‘Char Kalema Shakkhi Dibe,’ ‘Railine er Oi Bostite’ became instant hits among others. He succumbed to cancer on June 5, 2011.
