Fog disrupts Paturia-Daulatdia Ferry service in BD

Dhaka – Ferry Service on Paturia-Daulatdia route in the Padma river was disrupted following dense fog early Tuesday.

Shafikul Islam, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation’s (BIWTC’s) in Daulatdia Ghat office, said the authorities has suspended ferry services on the route for three hours from 4:30am due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.
Three ferries lied motionless in the middle of the river while four stuck at Paturia and nine at Daulatdia.
Passengers suffered most as around 350 vehicles had to be kept waiting on both sides of the river.
Meanwhile, the ferry services on the Shimulia-Kawrakandi route in the Padma river resumed after three and a half hours’ disruption caused by dense fog on Tuesday morning.
Shah Khaled Newaj, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation’s (BIWTC’s) Shimulia Ghat office, said ferry services had been suspended on the Shimulia-Kawrakandi route from 5:00am to 8:30am due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.
Ferries loaded with vehicles remained stranded at Shimulia and Kawrakandi ferry ghats. Six ferries stayed stranded in the mid river due to the fog. – UNB
