A movie festival for short films will be held today(Tuesday) at Auditorium Novelle Vague, Alliance Francaise de Dhaka, Dhanmondi in the city. The festival will be held as part of the ongoing Francophonie Festival 2016. The French cultural festival began on March 11 in Dhaka and Chittagong amid festivity and enthusiasm. The festival has been organised by Francophone diplomatic missions in Bangladesh, together with Alliances Fran?aise branches, in Dhaka and Chittagong.Today’s movie festival will screen seven short films made in Canada, France, Egypt and Switzerland. The movies include two Canadian cartoon movies- Abracadabra and Inon ou la conquete du feu, Swiss animated movie Aubade, French productions L’Accordeu and the animated Le Genie de la boite de raviolis and Egyptian movies The Other Pair and You Bet?Tomorrow as part of Francophonie festival, a special discussion session under the title “Preservation and Promotion of Mother Language” will be organised at the auditorium of Institute of Modern Languages, University of Dhaka at 10:00am.
Professor Dr AA M S Arefin Siddique, vice-chancellor of University of Dhaka will be present as chief guest at the discussion while Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman will be the guest of honour. Dr Jinnat Imtiaz Ali, director of International Mother Language Institute will be the keynote speaker. Other panelists will be ambassadors of the Francophonie countries and other eminent personalities of the country’s think tank.Every year, one month after “Ekushey February”, the Francophone community celebrates and promotes worldwide the use of the French language as well as cultural and linguistic diversity. This year’s festival includes events such as “pétanque” competition, a speech contest titled “national finale of LabCitoyen”, cooking competition, translation competition and many more. Consulates of Canada, Egypt, Morocco, Vietnam, Qatar and Switzerland, the bases of Francophone diplomatic missions in Bangladesh, provide additional support for the festival.
