Fresh hunt for BNP leaders: Fakhrul, Abbas, Salam in jail

A court here on Sunday sent BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and its two other leaders to jail rejecting their bail petition in three cases, including a murder case, following arson attack on a bus.
The two others are BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas and its Dhaka City member secretary Abdus Salam. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnana passed the order after hearing on their petitions seeking bail.On January 3, miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a Gulistan-bound bus from Abdullahpur during BNP-sponsored blockade programme, leaving its passengers Shahina and Farid and driver Babul Hawlader injured with burns.  Later, Shahina and Farid succumbed to their injuries.
Three cases were filed with Shahbagh and Ramna police stations in this connection.
On February 3, the High Court granted bail for eight weeks to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in the three cases.
On March 9, the government moved the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court which scrapped the bail granted by the High Court to five BNP leaders, including Mirza Fakhrul, Mirza Abbas and Abdus Salam. – UNB
