Fulfill demands of water transport workers: National committee

Dhaka – The National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads & Railways (NCPSRR) on Thursday urged the concern authorities to fulfill waterways transport workers’ 15 point demands including increasing of its minimum wage.
At a joint statement, National Committee adviser and senior politician Manzurul Ahsan Khan and its general secretary Ashis Kumar Dey made the call.To avoid public sufferings, the green and civil rights body campaigning for a long time for an environment and public-friendly transport system, also urged the Labor and the Shipping ministries to take immediate step to resolve the present crisis.
The statement said, the present wage of all kinds of vessels labor including passengers carrier is monthly Tk 4,100 which is most poorly.
They wanted the monthly wage raised to Tk 8,250 considering the current prices of commodities is very appropriate. It also, the national committee think, their demands to stop extortion in the waterways, ensure security and give them appointment letter are very logical.
The organisation demanded of government necessary steps to solve the present crisis for the public interest. – News Desk
