US based power plant equipment manufacturer General Electric (GE) will supply gas turbine-generators to the under construction Bhola combined cycle power plant. A GE press lease said the company’s French subsidiary recently signed a contract with China Chengda Engineering Co., Ltd. to supply two units of GE’s 6F Gas Turbines to be installed at Bhola power plant. This will be the first advanced F-class gas turbine generator installation in Bangladesh to produce about 200 megawatt of power. The China Chengda Engineering Co., Ltd. is an international contractor engaged in EPC activities. The Bhola power plant project is expected to commence generation by the year 2015. The new installation will help compensate and reduce the energy mismatch currently being experienced in Bangladesh by delivering power with high efficiency, availability, reliability and low emissions. First introduced in 1995, the highly efficient 6F gas turbine is a mid-sized choice for combined cycle or cogeneration for 100 to 300 MW power blocks. Engineered for 50 or 60 Hz applications, GE’s durable 6F gas turbine delivers power with high efficiency, availability, and reliability, coupled with low emissions and low life-cycle costs. Together these projects are expected to produce 675 MW of power to help expand Bangladesh’s power generation capacity significantly. With the addition of this new contract, in a little over 8 months, respective GE entities will now be supplying gas turbines that will together produce 900 MW of power in Bangladesh. – UNB
