GK to set up 15-bed ICU for corona patients

Dhaka, June 30 – Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) is going to set up a 15-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at its hospital in the capital’s Dhanmondi area to treat coronavirus-infected patients at the initiative of its founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury.“Amid the illness, he (Zafrullah) is trying to raise money and monitoring the overall activities for opening a 15-bed ICU at the Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital as soon as possible,” GK public relations officer Forhad Hossain told UNB on Tuesday night.
He said Zafrullah urged the well-off section of people to come forward in this regard so that the work on the ICU bed installation can be completed as soon as possible.
Forhad said GK has an initial target to open the ICU unit for the corona patients by July 10.
He, however, said although Dr Zafrullah’s health condition has wormseed again, he recovered from the coronavirus infections.
“His (Zafrullah) condition has deteriorated again. He’s been suffering from post-Covid-19 secondary pneumonia,” the GK PRO said.
He said the GK founder has been advised by doctors to avoid speaking completely due to inflammation in his larynx.
Forhad also said Zafrullah has become physically week due to his prolonged illness. “But his morale is very high.”
Zafrullah, also a freedom fighter, underwent coronavirus testing with the kit developed by Gonoshasthaya which found him to be Covid-19 positive on May 25.
He tested negative for the virus on June 13, but still suffering from pneumonia.
Zafrullah has been receiving treatment at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in the city’s Dhanmondi area. – UNB
