GM Ziaur Rahman beat Indian GM Abhijeet Gupta

Dhaka – Bangladeshi Grand Master Ziaur Rahman (rating 2461) beat his upper ranked Indian Grand Master Abhijeet Gupta (rating 2606) in the 8th round match of the Goa International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament held in Goa on Sunday.

GM Zia played with black pieces against Catalan Opening of GM Abhijeet and won the match after 30 moves.

With the day’s feat, Zia was sharing the 2nd slot with three other players securing 6.5 points.

Besides, other Bangladesh players Tahsin Tajwar Zia earned 4 points, Mezanur Rahman earned 3.5 points, CM Chanchal Kumer Ghosh and Shawkhat Bin Osman Shawon earned 3 points each, Monjur Alam bagged 2.5 points, Anisuzzaman Jewel earned 2 points, Md Abzid Rahman earned 1.5 points while Jodunath Biswas earned 0.5 point after the day’s 8th round matches.

In the day’s 8th round matches, Tahsin drew with IM Praven Kumar of India, Mezan drew with WCM Mrudul Dehankar of India, CM Chanchal beat AACB Amarasinghe of Sri Lanka, Monjur drew with Dahal Sushrut of Nepal, Jewel drew with Sherestha Suman of Nepal, Jodunath drew with Pahadi Rajan of Nepal, Shawon lost to Gaikward Siddanth of India while Abzid lost to Sakhawaty Pesepehr of Afghanistan.UNB
