Govt agents have infiltrated BNP to mislead workers: Fakhrul

Dhaka, Dec 15 – Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday alleged that government agents infiltrated BNP to create confusion and misguide the party’s rank and file.“Various agents of the current government have infiltrated BNP, and they want to create division among us and confuse us with their different comments,” the BNP secretary-general said.
Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader urged everyone not to be misled.
“We’re all right and united. Not only our grassroots but also all our leaders and those who believe in BNP’s politics and the patriots are united,” he said. “We just need to save energy to strike the iron while it is hot. We’re getting ready for making such strike.”
BNP arranged the discussion at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium, marking the Martyred Intellectuals Day,
Fakhrul called upon the government to annul the results of 11th parliamentary election, and take immediate steps to organise a fresh election restoring the non-party caretaker government system before the time runs out.
Otherwise, he warned that the government will have to face a strong movement and serious public wrath.
Recalling the contributions of the martyred intellectuals to the country’s independence, the BNP leader urged the country’s current intellectuals to wake up and get united being imbued with ideals of their predecessors to protect the country’s independence, sovereignty and democracy.
He came down hard on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her remarks that Khandaker Mustaque Ahmad had promoted Ziaur Rahman as the army chief as Zia was his most trusted person. “It is a travesty of truth,” he said.
“Khandaker Mustaque was the closest and most trusted person of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He himself formed a government through a plot with other Awami League leaders removing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. We didn’t forget this fact,” the BNP leader said.
He said the government has taken all steps to restore one-party rule by destroying all institutions and democracy.
Stating that judiciary is the last resort of people to get justice, the BNP leader said Khaleda Zia was denied bail as the judiciary is not independent.
BNP Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said the spirit of the Liberation War has been destroyed by the current government with the obliteration of democracy.
He said the intellectuals sacrificed their lives in 1971 to establish people’s rights but the people have now lost their all rights, including voting.
The BNP leader said the country also lacks the rule of law due to politicisation of the judiciary.
Voicing anger over the cancellation of Khaleda’s bail by the Appellate Division, he said their party no longer expects that she will be released through the legal process. “We ensure the fall of this regime to have our leader freed from jail through a strong movement.” – UNB
