Dhaka, Aug 2 (UNB) – BNP on Friday alleged that the government has plundered public money by importing ineffective insecticide to kill mosquito.
“The country has long been facing dengue problem. Why haven’t you (govt) taken preventive measures before the monsoon? You’ve imported ineffective mosquito-killing medicines and plundered crores of taka,” alleged BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Speaking at a rally in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he said the two city corporations failed to exterminate mosquitoes “due to corruption in procuring insecticide” that has led to a serious outbreak of dengue fever.
Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal brought out the rally to raise awareness among people about dengue prevention and press for the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Rizvi said people are suffering. “They’re rushing to hospitals and dying of dengue, but the two mayors are making unguarded remarks instead of taking effective steps.”
He said the government is also demonstrating an irresponsible attitude in tackling the crisis. “The Prime Minister has been staying in London and the Health Minister went to Malaysia ignoring the country’s crisis.”
The BNP leader also criticised the government for keeping Khaleda in jail for over 18 months in ‘false and fabricated’ cases.
He demanded the government immediately release Khaleda and ensure her proper treatment.
