Govt obligation to find out Salahuddin: Dr Subramanian Swamy

Sr BJP leader Dr. Subramanian Swamy in a statement issued in New Delhi on Monday has termed Bnp spokesperson Salahuddin’s disappearance episode as shocking, according to a message received in Dhaka
The abduction of Bangladesh’s BNP spokesperson Salahuddin Ahmed, on March 10 by men identifying themselves as members of Detective Branch of the police, from his Uttara Residential Area house in Dhaka is shocking. It is now not enough if the Government denies involvement or knowledge of his whereabouts, or who abducted him. He must be located and rescued. On March 16, Dhaka High Court was told by the Inspector General of Police that the various security services under his control had not detained or arrested Salahuddin Ahmed. The Court found there was little evidence to show that the police had conducted a serious investigation and adjourned the hearings to April 8th.
Human Rights advocates fear they may have been killed or are being held without trial. So too Ahmed’s wife who said she now feared for her husband’s life. Mr. Ahmed was a three times former Member of Parliament and was also a Communication Minister when Begum Zia was Prime Minister from 2001 to 2006.
Ahmed is one of scores of BNP officials to have disappeared in recent months. Although the government has denied any role in the disappearances, rights group claim the officials were picked up by the security forces on the instructions of their political masters.
As a nation committed to democracy, the Bangladesh government is under obligation to find out where Salahuddin is and rescue him, Dr. Swami added, the statement said.
