Govt reaches relief to 64.9 million people

Dhaka, June 8: As many as 64.9 million people across the country have received government’s assistances, including relief materials, as the government continues its efforts to mitigate their sufferings in the wake of the pandemic COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak. According to the information received from the district administrations of 64 districts, as of yesterday (Sunday), 2,01,417 metric tons of rice has so far been allocated across the country while 1.65 lakh metric tons of rice have been distributed among some 1.46 crore families, an official handout said here this afternoon.
“The number of total beneficiaries rose to 64.9 million people till date,” the handout said, adding that the government has so far allocated cash over Taka 116 crore while about Taka 77.09 crore has already been distributed in cash among over 4,18,65000 people of 93.76 families.
A total of Taka 25.54 crore was allocated as baby food aid while about Taka 20.63 crore has so far been distributed among 13.69 people of 6.55 lakh families, the release added.
