GP to get ‘013’ number series, too

Dhaka: Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Sunday decided to allow Grameenphone to introduce a new number series beginning with ‘013’ on conditions.
The decision came following a meeting of the commission, BTRC chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood told UNB. According the BTRC, the subscribers can use new number series of 013 alongside their existing ‘017’ prefix which has almost exhausted. UNB News Agency Reported. Grameenphone filed an application to the BTRC last year seeking an additional number series to provide new connections as the sales of 10 crore SIMs of 017 series is likely to exhaust by November next, said GP sources.
According to the current number planning of the BTRC, an operator can sell highest 10 crore of connections of a series.
Meanwhile, state-owned Teletalk is using prefix 015 while Airtel 016, Robi 018, Banglalink 019, and Citycell 011 among the other operators.
As per the National Numbering Plan of the BRTC, there are prefixes of 012, 013 and 014 series still undistributed.
Talking to UNB, GP chief corporate affairs officer Mahmud Hossain, “We’re still awaiting BTRC approval for a new prefix. We’ve applied for a new number series as the possible numbers under our 017 prefix have almost exhausted.”
