Grid line fauls cause power outage in western Bangladesh

Dhaka, May 2 – Power supply remained suspended in a vast area under Khulna, Barisal, Rajshahi and Rangpur division since Monday night following failure of two major grid transmission lines.The grid failures virtually led to shutdown of a many power plants in the country’s west and northern regions, said a top official of the state-owned Power Development Board (PDB).
The officials at the state-owned Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB), which is responsible to operate grid system, said the first incident of grid failure took place at 230 kV Ashuganj-Sirajganj transmission lines as a strong storm hit it at 11pm on Monday.
With this breakdown of the grid line, which works as one of the main electricity transmission lines to northern region, a number of power plants in the region were immediately shut. – UNB
