Guard among 8 injured in Kushtia Prison attack

Kushtia, Mar 20 — At least eight people, including a prison guard, sustained injuries after they were attacked allegedly by a group of local miscreants at Kushtia Central Jail on Friday night. Jail sources said that a minor altercation between a prison guard and a local vegetable vendor in front of the jail gate on Friday evening led to the attack.
“Around 8.30 pm, the vegetable vendor and his associates, armed with lethal weapons, swooped on the jail and attacked the prison guards, leaving eight people injured,” said Shawkat Kabir, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station.
However, other prison guards rushed to the rescue of their colleagues and soon brought the situation under control.
Mamun Hossain, an assistant chief prison guard, was among the injured, the OC said, adding the other injured were rushed to Kushtia General Hospital.
Prison guards detained two of the attackers and handed them over to the police. “Efforts are on to nab the remaining people involved in the attack,” said the OC. – UNB
