Health minister: Hard measures against food adulteration

Health and Family Planning Minister Mohammad Nasim on Tuesday said the law against food adulteration will be enforced so hard that no one will dare committing the crime. “Those involved in food tainting will get stringent punishment,” he said during a visit to National Food Security Laboratory in the city’s Mohakhali. Director General of Health Directorate, Prof Dr Din Mohammad, Director General of Drug Administration Directorate Maj Gen Jahangir Hossain Mullic and Adviser of Food Security Laboratory project Prof Shah Md Monir Hossain were present in the meeting. Nasim directed the country’s mobile courts and sanitary inspectors to work more sincerely. He said people’s representatives at Upazila levels will be involved in anti-adulteration campaign. The public representatives will be given responsibility to monitor the work of sanitary inspectors in village markets, he said. Nasim underscored the need for more dynamism of mobile courts in the cities, including the capital. He said technology-based management will be put in place to ensure food safety. Earlier the Minister laid the foundation for Drug Administration Directorate’s new building at the Mohakhali Health Directorate Complex. He also visited Vaccine branch of National Control Laboratory and later Drug testing Laboratory. – UNB
