Hindu idol vandalised in Thakurgaon temple

Thakurgaon, Jan 5 — The idol of Hindu Goddess Kali was vandalised by unidentified miscreants at a temple in Thakurgaon’s Pirgonj Upazila on Sunday night.

Jitendra Nath, president of the Kali Mandir management committee, said some of the devotees had gone to pay respect to the goddess at night and found the idol had been desecrated.
Its head was damaged.
The Ilua Pukur Shamshan Ghat Kali Mandir is located in Syedpur Union.
Jitendra alleged that dispute over the cremation ground’s land led to the vandalism.
Syedpur Union’s Chairman Ekramul Haq said there are ownership disputes among locals over the cremation ground land and the administration is aware of the issue.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rejaul Karim said the local administration has held meetings with both sides to prevent any untoward incident.
Pirgonj Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Pradeep Kumar said a case had been filed over the idol vandalism. – UNB
