Hooligans, godfathers can’t be leaders, AL Ctg council told

Chittagong, Dec 7 – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said the days of becoming leaders by unleashing chaos and thuggery are over. Quader came up with the remarks while voicing annoyance over the chaos and disorder unleashed by party activists during the council of Awami League’s Chattogram district (north) unit at Laldighi Maidan in the city at noon.
Quader, also the Road, Transport and Bridges Minister, was the chief guest at the council inaugurated by party Presidium member Eng Mosharraf Hossain.
Sharply reacting to the slogans shouted in the name of ABM Fazle Karim, MA Salam and Sheikh Akhtar Quader said, “Do you think we’ll make you leaders because of your slogans? The days of becoming a leader by chanting slogans, maintaining supremacy in an area and unleashing hooliganism are over.”
The AL leader further said, “Activists having a clean image and a record of dedication to the party will become leaders from now on.”
Quader reminded them that no-one of those who had a huge number of people shouting slogans in favour of them, carrying banners and billboards around in their names in Dhaka city could become the president/secretary of the party.
“We’ve many workers …we don’t need any bad people. The workers who killed Abrar at Buet, we don’t need them. Similarly, we don’t need those workers at Chattogram University who fight and quarrel at the drop of a hat,” the minister asserted.
Mentioning that Awami League will evaluate its dedicated and selfless activists, Quader said politics is not for the coward, but for the brave-hearted people.
Information Minister and AL Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Abdul Matin Khasru, MP, Awami League Presidium Member and Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Organising Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shameem were, among others, present at the council. – UNB
