Dhaka, Jan 16 – Residents of Ambarkhana area in Sylhet city, in the northeastern part of Bangladesh, have urged the authorities to take necessary steps for stopping the annoyances created by monkeys. They formed a human chain in the area on Sunday over the issue, alleging that the nuisance of the local monkeys have been increasing day by day.
The monkeys are attacking children and vandalising the houses in the locality in recent times, they pointed out.
However, the locals noted that they do not want the authorities to kill the monkeys.
They suggested the monkeys should be sent to any forest area where they may remain safe. Environmentalists are however of the view that the authorities concerned should engage zoologists to see why the monekys have, as reported, creating more disturbance now than before. Has there been encorachments on their habitat or the fruit bearing trees on which they used to live. Because animals normally loved to live in their own spehres, the experts said. – UNB
