I-Cup Football: Brothers Union upset Mohammedan 3-2

Dhaka  – Brothers Union Club forced Dhaka Mohammedan SC out of the KFC Independence Cup Football beating them by 3-2 goals in a Group A match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Thursday. With the day’s debacle, defending champions Mohammedan SC were eliminated from race with six points from five matches while Brothers Union also made the exit from the season’s first meet securing six points from five matches.Mannaf Rabbi put Brothers ahead in the 51st minute by a good header off a curved cross of Ghanaian midfielder Awudu Ibrahim from the left flank. (1-0).Two minutes later, Mannaf Rabbi again scored the second goal for Brothers Union. Taking a deflection of Nkowcha Kingsley, Mannaf Rabby  fired the far post net from the right edge of the box (2-0).Mohammedan pulled the margin one back in the 54th minute through forward Tawhidul Alam Shabuz by a placing shot , utilizing a late reaction of Brothers defense (2-1).Mohammedan equalised the margin when in the 65th minute when their forward Biplu Ahmed found the net by a placing shot, capitalising on a Tawhidul Alam Shabuz square pass (2-2) Brothers Union scored the match-winner in the 75th minute. forward Awudu Ibrahim scored the 3rd goal for Brothers beating  Mohammedan goalie Mohammed Nehal from almost zero angle (3-2).Earlier, Brothers Union came close to a goal in the 2nd minute when Nigerian forward Nkowcha’s shot was saved by Mohammedan goalie Md. Nehal diving to the right.Mohammedan has a chance to take the lead but Ismael Bangoura’s shot was cleared by Brothers captain Ibayed Hossain Komol.Two minutes later, Brothers also had a chance to move ahead but Kingsley’s shot was goalline saved by defender Poumi Landry.In the 23rd minute forward Tawhidul Alam Shabuz saw his header  hitting the crosspiece a cross of Masuk Mia from the right flank.In the 42nd minute Midfielder Biplu Ahmed shot was fisted by Brothers  goalie Uttam Barua.
