I want to play at least 50-75 Tests for BD : Abu Jayed

Dhaka — Right-arm national pacer Abu Jayed on Wednesday said that he wants to represent Bangladesh in at least 50 to 75 Tests.

Abu Jayed represented Tigers in eight Tests so far and bagged 20 wickets with the best figures of four for 59. The Sylhet-born pacer became the main bowler of Bangladesh in Test cricket over the last few months.

“It’s good that I have been playing Tests regularly. I think it’s tough for a player to deliver well with having confusion about whether he will get chance in the next match or not. It becomes easy to play well knowing that I’ll get a chance if I do well consistently,” he told the media at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Bangladesh will play one-off Test against Zimbabwe starting from February 22 at Sher-e-Bangla. In the last three Tests at home, Bangladesh played only one pacer since the job of the pacers are always tough on home soil.

But Jayed believes taking wickets is not the only job a pacer can offer.

“The main job of a pacer is to help the team. I don’t know how many pacers we will have in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe. But I know I have to bowl to help my team which is my main job and my main motivation to do well,” he said.UNB
