Dhaka – Bangladesh women’s cricket team awfully suffered a six-wicket defeat against South Africa in their last Group-B match of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier at P Sara Oval, Colombo, Sri Lanka on Saturday.Bangladesh scored a tiny figure of 100/10 in 46.5 overs where skipper Rumana Ahmed the only notable score with 39 runs. Salma Khatun and Sanjida Islam added 16 and 13 runs respectively.Player of the match Shabnim Ismail grabbed three wickets for economic 14 runs in nine overs while Sune Luus grabbed another three-wicket 17 runs. Dane van Niekerk took two for 22 and Marizanne Kapp took one for 11.South Africa chased down the target of 101 for 4 in 25.2 overs, spurred by the opening stand contribution of 50 in 10 overs between Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt.L Lee scored 34 runs while L Wolvaardt collected 30 runs. Chloe Tryon (14 not out) and Trisha Chetty (14) were two other double figure scorers for the side.Jahanara Alam, Suraiya Azmin, Rumana Ahmed and Salma Khatun bagged one wicket each.Despite the day’s loss, the Tigresses moved to the super-six stage, by virtue of more net run rate, collecting four points from four outings with two wins and two losses.
