“I have been appraised of the situation and the decisions you made to continue to the airport with the better emergency support and then after the low approaches to confirm the problems, the skill you used to land the aircraft with the damaged landing gear,” he further said.
He said Nawshad went above and beyond his responsibilities and utilised his skill in a calm and reasoned manner to make a safe landing.
Finally the Acting President thanked him for his professionalism and for helping to maintain the high safety standards for aviation.
On December 22, the flight BG 122 of Biman Bangladesh Airlines made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) following a glitch at a rear wheel.

When the BG 122 took off from Muscat, the control tower informed the captain that a portion of wheels have been found on the runway which might be the part of the aircraft.
All sorts of cautionary measures were taken at the HSIA by his request and the Captain flied the aircraft on the runway at a low-level for two times before final landing.
After safe landing the number two rear wheel was found damaged but none was injured.
Captain Nawshad Ataul Quayum was born on 17 October 1977 in Dhaka district. He joined Biman as pilot on 20 September 2002 and so far he has completed 8,700 flying hours.-STAFF REPORTER
