IGP Cup Kabaddi underway

Dhaka – The final round of the IGP Cup 14th National Youth (Under-21) Kabaddi Championship, under the auspices of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BKF), was inaugurated at Kabaddi Stadium here Tuesday.The Inspector General of Police and President of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation AKM Shahidul Hoque inaugurated the four-day meet in the afternoon at a colourful ceremony, featuring march past of participating teams and cultural function.Additional Police Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Maruf Hasan was also present as special guest at the function, chaired by BKF vice president and tournament committee chairman Nizamuddin Chowdhury Parvez. BKF general secretary M Nazrul Islam gave the welcome speech.

Eight teams — six divisional champions alongside two top teams from Dhaka division split into two groups – will initially take part in league matches of the competition, beginning Wednesday morning.Six matches will be held on the opening day in the morning and afternoon sessions.The participating teams are Group A – Comilla, Sylhet, Dhaka and Nilphamari Group B – Mymensingh, Satkhira, Rajshahi and Barisal.Later, two top teams from each of the group will play in the semifinal on April 8. The final and the 3rd place deciding match will be held on April 9.The champions of the ensuing IGP Cup will be awarded with prize money of Tk 1 lakh, runners-up will receive Tk 50,000, 3rd place holders will get Tk 30,000 while the best player will receive cash award of Tk 10,000 in addition to a trophy.agences
