Imrul expects better wickets in Dhaka

Dhaka – Veteran Bangladesh batsman Imrul Kayes is expecting better wickets to be provided in Dhaka as the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL)  resumes on Friday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Imrul has been representing Chattogram Challengers in this year’s BPL. He amassed 235 runs in seven games with two fifties. The Challengers are currently at the top of the points table with 10 points from seven games with five wins.

“We’ve played on some exceptionally good wickets in Chattogram that were good for batsmen. We had also some good wickets in Dhaka at the start of BPL. We expect the same sorts of wickets in Dhaka again,” Imrul told the media on Thursday during a practice session of his team.

The teams hit 200 or more runs five times in the ongoing BPL so far, but no one of those was in Dhaka. Dhaka Platoon’s 182 against Sylhet Thunder on December 14 remained as the highest total in Mirpur.

“We know the wickets of Dhaka are different from Chattogram’s. Most of the age-level teams, high-performance team and women’s teams conduct their practice at Dhaka. But the wickets of Chattogram get enough rest. But the things are not the same in Dhaka. So, it’s tough to prepare the same sorts of wickets in Mirpur,” Imrul added.

Imrul was the most-run getter in the first Dhaka-phase of BPL. But he failed to continue on a good run in Chattogram. The southpaw said he is not bothered by being to be the most-run getter.

“I’m not thinking much about this. I tried to do better in Chattogram but failed to display my own game. I should have scored 60-70 runs of 50 balls. I played as per the requirement of the team. How many runs I have scored is not important for me. I’m just focusing on doing the things for my team,” Imrul added.UNB
