Indefinite transport strike in Kushtia begins Sept 5

Kushtia District Bus-Minibus-Coach Owners’ Association and Kushtia Motor Workers’
Union will enforce an indefinite strike on all routes of the district from September 5 to
press for stopping movement of the shallow engine-run human haulers on the roads and
highway.
The decision came from a joint press briefing of the two transport organisations on
Sunday.
Shihab Uddin, president of the bus-minibus-coach owners’ association, read out a written
statement at the press briefing where it’s executive president Atahar Ali, acting general
secretary Emdadul Haque Montu and the motor workers’ union general secretary Afzal
Hossain addressed, among others.
They said no long-distance bus or truck will ply the roads of the district during the strike
from September 5.
The transport leaders said they were forced to call the strike to protest the authorities’
failure in removing the shallow engine-run vehicles, like Nasiman and Kariman, from the
roads and highway, despite repeated assurances.
They set a September 4 deadline for banning plying of the unauthorised vehicles,
threatening that the strike will be stared on September 5 for an indefinite period
otherwise. -UNB, Kushtia
