Independence Cup Football: Both matches end in goalless draw

Dhaka – Both the matches of the 13-team Walton Independence Cup Football Tournament 2018 ended in goalless draws at Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Saturday.Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra advanced to the quarterfinal from death Group D with unbeaten run after playing goalless with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the afternoon while Brothers Union Club booked a seat for the last-eight stage from Group C, also with an unbeaten run by making a goalless draw with Dhaka Abahani Limited.

On completion of the day’s matches, newcomers and big budgeted Bashundhara Kings clinched Group D title with unbeaten runs securing four points after beating Sheikh Jamal DC 2-0 and playing goalless draw with Sheikh Russel KC.

Sheikh Russel KC managed quarterfinal berth as Group D runners-up with two points from two matches after making goalless draw with both Bashundhara Kings and Sheikh Jamal DC ousting Sheikh Jamal DC.

Dhaka Abahani Limited clinched the Group C title securing four points from two encounters beating Muktoijoddha Sangsaad KC 2-1 and playing goalless draw with Brothers Union Club.
Brothers Union also advanced to quarterfinals as Group C runner-up playing goalless draw with Dhaka Abahani.

In the quarterfinals, Group A champions Arambagh KS will play Brother Union Tuesday (Dec 11), Group B champions (yet to decide) will face Group D runners-up Sheikh Russel KC on Wednesday (Dec 12), Group C champions Dhaka Abahani will play Saif SC on Thursday (Dec 13) while Group D champions Bashundhara Kings will play Group B runners-up (yet to decide) on Friday Dec 14, all at 4:30 pm.

In the last day of group matches on Sunday, Rahmatganj MFS will encounter NoFel SC at 3 pm while Dhaka Mohammedan will meet Chattogram Abahani at 5:15 pm to decide the other two quarterfinalists.UNB
