India to invest in BD’s infrastructure dev: Envoy

Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh V Shringla on Thursday said India will be investing in creating infrastructure — port, road and rail — in Ashuganj and Akhaura to facilitate the smooth movement of goods. The diplomat said this after attending a function marking the arrival of a vessel at Ashuganj carrying Indian goods consigned for Tripura that marked the first official transit to North East via Bangladesh. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.

“The helicopter flight from Dhaka provided me with a bird’s eye view of the lush greenery of the Bangladesh countryside,” Shringla wrote on his official Facebook page. The consignment travelling down the shorter and cost effective inland waterways route was officially received, among others, by Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan and Adviser to PM Dr Mashiur Rahman.

“The event was a memorable one with many present in this town (Ashuganj) bordering India (Tripura) remembering India’s assistance in 1971,” said the Indian diplomat.
