A high-level Indian delegation led by a Secretary in the country’s home ministry will review the progress of the Akhaura and Petrapole border infrastructure development works on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
According to Indian High Commission in Dhaka, High Commissioner Pankaj Saran will join the Indian delegation at both locations.
Secretary, Border Management Gauri Kumar will lead the delegation that will visit the Integrated Check Posts under construction at Akhaura and Petrapole.
The high commission in a media release says, India is in the process of upgrading seven Land Custom Stations on the India-Bangladesh border to Integrated Check Posts with both Customs and Immigration facilities at a cost of Rs.467 crores in two phases.
In the first phase, construction of Integrated Check Posts at Petrapole, Agartala and Dawki are being taken up. Works at Agartala and Petrapole are in an advanced stage of completion, it said.
In the second phase, construction of Integrated Check Posts at Hilli, Changrabandha, Sutarkandi and Kawrpuichhuah will be taken up.
Additionally, India is undertaking projects to improve infrastructures at seven other Land Custom Stations – Mahadipur, Gojadanga, Fulbari, Dalu, Borosora, Ghasuapara and Srimantapur.-bdnews24.com
