Indy Cup Football: Chattogram Abahani move into quarterfinals;

Dhaka- Chattogram Abahani Limited smartly moved into the quarterfinals of the 13-team Walton Independence Cup Football Tournament from Group B with all-win record beating Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society by a solitary goal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Thursday.Gambian booter Mamadou Bah scored the match-winner for Chattogram Abahani in the 38th minute to carry his team in the last eight stages.
In the day’s other match, newcomers Nofel Sporting Club shocked traditional Dhaka Mohammedan SC beating them by 2-0 goals at the same venue Thursday evening.
Ashraful put Nofel SC ahead in the 28th minute while Roman sealed the fate of the match scoring the 2nd goal in the stoppage time of the match (95th minute) with frustration of black and whites fans.
After the day’s match, the crowd pulling sky-blue team from port city of Chattogram, topped the Group B list securing full six points from straight two matches, following their 2-1 victory over Muktijoddha Sangsad KC, will play Dhaka Mohammedan SC in the last group match on Sunday (Dec 9).
Nofel SC will play Rahmatganj MFS in the other Group B match, also on Sunday, to decide the group champions and runners-up.
Thirteen teams, split into four groups, are initially taking part in the meet with three semifinalists of the just concluded Federation Cup — Bashundhara Kings, Sheikh Jamal DC and Sheikh Russel KC– putting together in Group D.
