Dhaka, Aug 26 – Education Minister Dipu Moni on Wednesday said the government has taken an initiative to amend the National Education Policy as it needs revision and refinement. She made the disclosure while addressing a virtual discussion programme organized by the Planning Commission as part of the Eighth Five Year Plan.
“The National Education Policy was formulated about 10 years ago. It has been a long period since then and many changes have taken place in the meantime. So now is the time to make revision, refinement and inclusion to the policy. The government has taken an initiative in this regard,” the education minister said.
Dr Dipu Moni also revealed that the formulation of an education law is at its final stage to ensure quality education at all levels.
“The government is committed to ensuring quality education at all levels. That‘s why an education law is at its final stage of formulation,” she said, adding that a huge population of the country has now been brought under the education facilities.
Besides, the government is laying emphasis on science, technology, engineering, arts and maths (STEAM) to improve the quality of education.
At the same time, different soft skills, including honesty, ethics, patriotism, communication skill, team building, critical thinking and problem solving, are now being emphasized, she added.
Regarding the online education system, Dr Dipu Moni said it is needed to keep the online learning facility in our education system so that the working people can avail of the facility of reskilling and upskilling to adapt themselves to any change.
Senior Secretary to the Planning Commission and Ekushey Padak winner Dr Shamsul Alam presented the keynote address at the meeting. Apart from him, University Grants Commission Chairman Dr Kazi Shahidullah, Vice Chancellors of different universities, among others, were present on the occasion. – UNB
