Another report says, the government has already shut down 22,000 porn sites from the internet and social media with a view to check the cybercrime across the country.
“A total of 22,000 porn sites, few thousands ‘sewer doer sites’, a kind of sex games, and dirty Tik-Tok apps have also been shut down in the internet and social media services,” said Post and Telecommunication Minister Mostafa Jabbar while responding to a supplementary question placed by BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid of Chapai Nawabganj-3 in the House here today.
Besides, the minister said, “we have taken the necessary initiative to remove some nude and vulgar information sites from Facebook and youtube.”
Terming the digital security as important for global affairs, he said the government has already set up a digital security agency in the Information technology department under the Digital Security Act-2018.
The minister, however, told the house the main problem is that most of the sites are being operated from abroad with the rules and guidelines enacted by the USA, saying that even the offices of those porn sites are not locally based.
So, it is important that whether the government can intervene in those nude and vulgar sites and remove it from social media.
Meanwhile, the minister informed the House that Department of Telecom Cyber Security project has been taken under the Telecom Department and it is working for the last one year, saying that the project will ensure digital security and a safe internet system in the country.
