Int’l Rating Chess: Zia emerges unbeaten champion

Dhaka – Grand Master Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh Navy emerged unbeaten champion with all-win record in the Prime Bank 19th
International Rating Chess Tournament securing full nine points from nine matches that concluded at the Chess Federation hall room on Thursday.CM Sohel Chowdhury of Sheikh Russel Memorial Sporting Club finished runner-up collecting 7.5 points,UNB News Agency Reported.
Five players earned 7 points each and their positions were decided through tie-breaking system.They are: 3rd-Md Sharif Hossain (Bangladesh Navy), 4th-IM Abu Sufian Shakil (Golden Sporting Club), 5th-SM Sharon (Bangladesh Navy), 6th- Sariatullah (Sonargaon Chess Club), 7th- Masum Hossain (Fire-Service & Civil Defense).Five players earned 6.5 points each. Their positions are: 8th- FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Emon (Sheikh Russel Chess Club) 9th-Shafiq Ahmed (Titas Club), 10th-FM Mohammed Abdul Malek, 11th- Abzid Rahman (Sonali Bank SRC), 12th-Delwar Hossain.In the day’s last round matches, GM Zia beat Sharif, Sohel drew with FM Emon, IM Shakil beat Rashed, Masum beat CM Siam, Sariat beat Uten, Sharon beat Mithu, Delwar beat Feroz, Shafiq beat Shiplu, Jaber drew with CM Mahtab, Mostafa beat Shahidul Amin, Sagar beat Mezanur,Sachcu beat Manik, Sheraj beat Moni.A total of 139 players, including one Grandmaster and one International Master participated in the 9-round Swiss League system meet.
Former Ambassador and former President of Bangladesh Chess Federation Muhammad Zamir distributed prizes at the closing function as the chief guest.Senior Executive Vice President of Prime Bank Limited Kazi Mahmood Karim and Vice President of Bangladesh Chess Federation KM Shahidullah were also present at the function with Salauddin Murad, Executive Member of Leonine Chess Club, in the chair.
