IUBAT remembers its former treasurer Bir Pratik Shafique Ullah

Speakers at a commemoration on the occasion of death anniversary of a valiant freedom fighter viewed that the spirit and values of our liberation war is a great legacy which has to be transferred to generation after generations . This will help the nation to march forward in building our beloved country with the ideals, vision and heroic spirit of the martyrs and valiant freedom fighters leading to faster socio-economic transformation in line with global changes to fulfill the dreams of every strata of our people.

IUBAT observes 6th death annicersary of Bir Pratik Col Shafique Ullah

This was the main theme of discussion of the commemoration program held at International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) in observence of the 6th Death Anniversary of Former Treasurer and Member, Board of Governors, Bir Protik Md.Shafique Ullah. The university community recalled the immense contribution of a man whose mission and vision was the product of his deep rooted academic excellence mixed with endurance and professionalism of ‘Army Academic Core’. The person known much for his distinctive role in his career in armed forces marked by good brand of patriotism,diligence, perseverance and his heroic role at the War of Liberation in 1971. He joined IUBAT in 1996 and continued dedicated service till his death on the last day of liberation month March 31st in 2008.
Presided over by Prof M Alimullah Miyan, Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT, happens to be the younger brother of Late Coln Shafiq Ullah, the commemoration was attended among others by the rank and file of university community, members of family, relations, friends, colleagues, freedom fighters, class mates, and admirers paid respect to a man whose life was ornamented with extraordinary discipline, courage bravery and professionalism marked by great deal of reliability, honesty, trustworthiness and high sense of responsibility.
The occasion was chalked out with elaborate program proceeded in a befitting manner arranged at Lake Side Arena of the IUBAT Campus on Monday afternoon. Began with national anthem followed by prayer led by Prof Aman Ullah, Chair , Department of Mathematics urged upon Almighty Allah for the salvation of the departed soul and praying for His choicest blessings.
Comprehensive discussion portraying the achievements, sacrifice, creative activities and sincere role played by the liberation hero in every sphere of his service and later in retired life academic dispensation to implement the dream of IUBAT.
Prof Dr John Richards, Member, International Advisory Council of IUBAT and Professor of Public Policy, Simon Fraser University, Canada, Dr Karen Lund, Chair, College of Nursing two special guests ,Lt. Col. A.K.M Zahid Hossain(Retd),Wg Cdr Kazi Abdul Matin, Faculty, Department of Languages, Dr M A Jabbar, Chair Department of Economics in their deliberations highlighted the glorious life of this academic icon uniquely blended with military discipline.
Earlier, Mr Rabiul Islam, presented detailed autobiography of Coln. Shafique Ullah touching the magnificent scenario of the late Bir Protik Shafique Ullah.
This was followed by a distinctive presentation entitled “An unsung Hero : Life and Contribution of Coln Shafique Ullah” by Drs.Chandan K Sarkar, Faculty, Department of Economics. This presentation was marked by the historical essence highlighting the phase of all-out disparity of Pakistani days ultimately causing the culmination of the War of Liberation under the political leadership under Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman leading to the birth of Bangladesh and its joining in the Comity of Nations. Wonderful touches and glittering quotes adding meaningful poetic verse outlined from the publications of the Author Bir Protik Shafique Ullah attracted the audience.
In his concluding speech Prof. Dr. M Alimullah Miyan stressed on the spirit of our liberation war saying that we have to pass through this legacy to the generation after generation to galvanize the essence of our liberation war. This will help build our beloved nation with the ideals and heroic roles of martyrs and freedom fighters at large to ensure socio-economic transformation necessary to implement the dream of all strata of our countrymen. The spirit, values, culture and ethos the country’s liberation war have to be protected, saying this he continued “we need to convert grief into strength for fighting the oppressors at every areasto ensure acceleration of growth and development for facilitating social, political, economic and cultural emancipation.
With this perspective, IUBAT has been marching ahead with its program to produce at least one graduate in every village. We have already covered all Upozillas except only four through the all-out effort of Education Extension Center supported by members of university community to develop a knowledge based society under KBAD Program, Dr Miyan detailed.
The program was coordinated by M Ibn Mujib, Assistant Registrar, International Division which was followed by cultural program mostly based on songs of our liberation war.
Valuable books on liberation war
Author of six valuable books on liberation war of Bangladesh, Late Coln. Shafique Ullah, elder brother of Prof Dr M Alimullah Miyan, Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT.
Late Shafique Ullah had heroic role as a valiant freedom fighter in country’s Independence and War of Liberation in 1971.
He authored 5 more books which are awaiting publication.
