Jatiya Oikya Front gets green signal to see ailing Khaleda

Dhaka, Oct 21 – Opposition alliance Jatiya Oikya Front postponed its citizen mourning rally slated for Tuesday (October 22) at Suhrawardy Udyan as it was not given permission.The latest decision came from a steering committee meeting at top Oikya Front leader Dr Kamal Hossain’s Bailey Road residence yesterday afternoon.
“The Oikya Front postponed tomorrow’s (October 22) mourning rally at Suhrawardy Udyan as the government did not give permission. Our agitation and protest programme will be continued in future,” said a press release issued following the meeting chaired by Dr Kamal Hossain in the chair.
In the press release, the Oikya Front leaders expressed condemned and resentment for denial of permission to hold the rally and termed the denial of holding the rally as shameful saying that the government undermine the rights to expressed opinion.
The Oikya Front leaders to determine the next course of political action soon in discussion at steering committee meeting, later on, said the release.
The Oikya Front earlier announced that programme protesting the killing of BUET student Abrar Fahad allegedly by Chhatra League cadres.
President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) ASM Abdur Rab, BNP standing committee member Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Bikalpa Dhara leader Prof Dr Nurul Amin Bepari, Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, Ganaforum general secretary Dr Reza Kibria, Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, Mostaque Ahmed and Jahangir Alam Minto, among others, were present at the meeting.
Meanwhile, leaders of Jatiya Oikya Front yesterday got a green signal from Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to BNP’s ailing chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail.
When contacted, JSD president ASM Abdur Rab confirmed that the Home Minister assured them of giving permission to the former premier, who is now undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical Hospital (BSMMU).
“During a meeting with the Home Minister today (Monday) he has given us permission in principle to meet Khaleda Zia either invidiously or in a group led by Dr Kamal Hossain.”
The JSD leader said the home minister would talk to the IGP prison and he would communicate with them in regards to meet the BNP chairperson.
“We will take our decision to meet Khaleda after the IGP prison informs us,” he added.
He termed the meeting with the home minister very cordial and thanked his for his cooperation to the Oikya Front leaders.
Oikya Front leaders- ASM Abdur Rab, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Subrata Chowdhury, Nurul Amin Bepari, Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury and Dr Reza Kibria, among others were present during the meeting with the home minister at his secretariat office. – Staff Reporter
