Journos withdraw boycott of Bangabandhu Gold Cup

Journalists here on Saturday withdrew their decision to boycott the coverage of the ongoing Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament.The journalists announced the boycott following the assault of Channel 24 cameraperson Ripon Hossain and driver Alauddin by a group of activists of city unit Bangabandhu Sainik League, led by its secretary Abdur Rahman Kakon on Friday night.Besides, Towhidur Rahman, staff reporter of the vernacular daily Samakal, SM Farhad of Channel 71, Rahul Roy of Maasranga TV were also injured during the incident as they tried to resist the assailants.However, journalists withdrew the boycott after a meeting with Jessore district administration and Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) held at Jessore Press Club.Jessore press club president Jahid Hasan Tukun confirmed this.Addressing the journalists as the guests of Jessore, BFF vice president Kazi Nabil Ahmed, also a local MP, apologized on behalf of the BFF and Jessore local administration for the unexpected incident that took place on Friday night.The MP urged the journalists to withdraw their decision to boycott the tournament coverage for betterment of country’s football.
Meanwhile, police arrested Abdur Rahman Kakon in this connection, said superintendent of police Anisur Rahman.(UNB)
