The founder chairman of Film and Television department of Jagannath University (JnU) Junaid Ahmed Halim has received National Film Award-2019 in the editing category for Maya: The Lost Mother.
Earlier, he also received the national award as the best editor in 2004 for “Shangkhanad” and 2009 for “Britter Baire”.
The information ministry on Thursday announced the names of the winners of National Film Award-2019, the highest recognition for contribution to the film industry in 26 categories. Junaid Halim was also former chairman of mass communication and journalism department at JnU.
He completed graduation and post graduation in mass communication and journalism from Dhaka University. He also obtained post graduate diploma in cinema, specialising editing from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune (1996).
His diploma film “Yea O Seher To Nahin” also got National Film Award of India (1996). He got special Jury Award for documentary “Dhaka Tokai” from Oberhausen Film Festival, the then West Germany (1986). Many of his edited films got various awards from highly reputed film festivals around the globe. Among them are “Nirantor” “Swapna Danay” and so on.
So far, Junaid Halim has edited, directed, scripted and worked for more than 50 films mostly of independent stream. He is a key founder member of Bangladesh Short Film Forum (1986) and International Short and Independent Film festival of BSF (1988). He is professional film Director, editor, producer, script writer, post production adviser and amateur actor.
He was born in Kathalia union of Narsingdi district. His wife Marufa Akter Poppy, a member of central committee of Bangladesh Awami League.
Talking to UNB, he urged the information ministry to scrutinise to bring transparency the incentive money for the sake of the film industry.
“Once, intellectual persons like Zahir Raihan came into the cinema profession but the day has gone. Now, there is no alternative way to improve the quality of cinema to bring a good day for the industry in Bangladesh. So, brilliant persons should be encouraged to come into the industry to make good cinema,” he also said.
